Sweden introduced new higher-education residence-permit rules from 11 June 2026. Students should check the current Swedish Migration Agency requirements before applying, including full-time study, tuition payment where required, financial maintenance and study-progress rules. For bachelor’s and master’s students covered by the new rules, work during semesters is generally limited to 15 hours per week, with unrestricted work during June, July and August.
Work During Studies & After Graduation
For bachelor’s and master’s students whose Swedish residence permit was granted on or after 11 June 2026, work alongside studies is generally limited to a maximum of 15 hours per week during semesters, while work can be unrestricted during June, July and August. After completing eligible higher education in Sweden, graduates may be able to apply for a residence permit to look for work or explore starting a business, subject to the current Swedish Migration Agency rules.
