Pakistani students applying for a UK Student visa need to understand the difference between university tuition and the visa financial requirement. They are related, but they are not the same thing.
What money do you need to show?
You generally need enough for the course fee due for one academic year, as stated on your CAS, plus the applicable living-cost requirement. Any tuition already paid and correctly reflected on the CAS can affect the amount you need to demonstrate.
London vs outside London
The maintenance requirement is higher for students studying in London. Before arranging funds, confirm whether your institution is treated as being in London for Student visa purposes.
Common mistakes Pakistani applicants make
- Using outdated maintenance figures.
- Counting a tuition payment that is not shown on the CAS.
- Submitting funds that do not meet the required holding/evidence rules.
- Ignoring currency fluctuations when converting PKR to GBP.
- Using unexplained large deposits without supporting evidence.
University budget vs visa minimum
The immigration financial requirement is not a complete cost-of-living budget. British Council guidance estimates real monthly living costs can vary significantly, especially in London. Students should budget for accommodation, food, transport, phone, deposits and emergencies.
How early should you plan?
Start financial planning before you accept an offer. That gives you time to compare tuition deposits, scholarships and realistic living costs without rushing near the visa deadline.
