Pakistani students admitted to higher education in Sweden normally need a residence permit for studies for programmes lasting more than three months.

2026 maintenance requirement: The Swedish Migration Agency currently states at least SEK 10,656 per month for applications made in 2026, subject to the rules for the permit period and any family members.

Final admission and tuition

You must be finally admitted to full-time studies. If tuition applies, the Swedish Migration Agency says you are generally considered finally admitted only after the tuition fee has been paid and the university has notified the agency.

Financial maintenance

Accepted financial maintenance can include personal bank assets, qualifying scholarships, student grants/loans, certain sponsors or employment income under the rules. Private-person support generally needs to be transferred into an account accessible to you rather than treated as a private sponsor.

Health insurance

If your studies will last less than one year, comprehensive health insurance is generally required unless appropriate coverage is provided through the institution. Longer programmes follow different registration/healthcare arrangements.

New 2026 student work limit

For bachelor’s and master’s students whose residence permits are granted on or after 11 June 2026, work during semesters is generally limited to 15 hours per week. The Migration Agency states that work can be unrestricted during June, July and August, with specified exceptions.

Do not rely on part-time work for visa funds

Your residence-permit application must demonstrate sufficient maintenance according to the official rules. A future job offer does not automatically replace required proof.
