Pakistani students applying for a Canada study permit in 2026/2027 need more than a university offer. The correct document set depends on your institution, province, programme and personal circumstances.
1. Letter of Acceptance from a DLI
Your school must be a Designated Learning Institution. IRCC may ask the institution to validate your LOA, so make sure the offer is genuine and current.
2. PAL/TAL or CAQ where applicable
Most study permit applicants need a PAL/TAL issued through their school. Students studying in Quebec generally follow the CAQ process instead. Do not assume an exemption applies without checking IRCC’s current rules.
3. Proof of financial support
You must show enough money, without relying on work in Canada, for tuition, living expenses and transportation. IRCC expects evidence for the first year and a credible plan for the full duration of longer programmes.
4. Identity and supporting documents
Prepare a valid passport and any additional documents requested by IRCC. Depending on your case, medical examination, biometrics, police certificates or other evidence may apply.
5. Study plan and programme logic
Your chosen programme should make sense in relation to your education and career goals. A well-documented application explains why the programme is appropriate and how it will be funded.
Common mistakes
- Choosing a DLI or programme without checking PGWP implications.
- Submitting an outdated PAL/TAL.
- Showing only first-year funds with no credible longer-term plan.
- Using inconsistent academic/employment information.
- Assuming admission guarantees a study permit.
