A blocked account is one of the most common ways Pakistani students prove they can support themselves while studying in Germany, but it is not the only possible form of financial proof.
What is a blocked account?
A blocked account, or Sperrkonto, holds a specified amount of money and releases it in monthly portions after you arrive in Germany. It is designed to show the visa authority that you have funds available for living expenses.
Is a blocked account compulsory?
Not in every case. German government guidance recognises more than one form of proof of financing. Depending on your situation, accepted evidence can include a blocked account, qualifying scholarship, declaration of commitment or other accepted proof. The embassy decides whether your evidence meets the visa requirement.
How much should you prepare?
For 2026, official German guidance uses €11,904 as the standard annual blocked-account reference for many student cases. Because visa rules can change, students applying for 2027 should not assume the 2026 amount will remain unchanged.

Blocked account vs tuition fees
The blocked account is generally intended to demonstrate living-cost funds. Tuition, semester contributions, travel, insurance and deposits may be separate expenses. Some public programmes have no general tuition, while certain states, institutions and programmes charge tuition to non-EU students.
When should Pakistani students arrange it?
Start planning financing as soon as you begin serious university applications. Once you have admission and know your visa timeline, complete the financial proof early enough to avoid delaying your appointment or departure.
